Course Elements

You work on all skills at Improv Connection, but now that the year is coming to a close, it's time to ask: What are you amazing at, right now?  It's time to find and magnify your superpower, and support your other players who are doing the same.

Celebrate your superpowers by sharing them with ALL your friends at a final showcase as we return to our old home –BATS Theatre!

Additionally, each week you'll be in a jam with EVERYONE in the program, and special students making a return!

Monday Night Jams 

Monday Night Jams are the perfect warm-up for the Superpower Intensive and are included in your course fees! These Jams provide the chance to work in varied groups of improvisers each week, led by coaches that offer encouragement and feedback, alongside their own improv expertise. Taking place before the Superpower Intensive, these jams are a surefire way to get you warmed up and ready for more learning and playing! 

Class Format 

Session 1, Monday 14 November: Discover and charge up your superpower

Session 2, Monday 21 November: Workshop a show that uses your new troupe's superpowers to make an amazing show!

Session 3, Monday 28 November: Rehearse the show

Session 4, Sunday, 4 December: Superpower Show at BATS

Monday Session formats

5:45pm - 7:20pm : Monday Night Jams 

7:20pm - 7:30pm: Break & Chat

7:30pm - 9:30pm: Superpower Intensive 

About your Teachers

You will be assigned a coach who will support you through the Superpower Monday night rehearsals and as both teachers will co-host the jams, you will have the opportunity to work with both teachers over the duration of the course. 

Nicola Pauling - Nicola is passionate about play and performance as a tool for personal, professional, emotional, and creative development! She’s been performing for 20+ years and facilitating applied improv for 15 years. Nicola is a disciple of Actors Improv (Bobbi Block, USA) and likes to keep it real on stage. She is the founder and Director of Voice Arts, which you should totally check out.

Jonathan Mandeno - Jon began his love affair with improvisation after trying it on a whim once moving to Wellington. Since then, he has avidly trained and performed with Improv Connection, BaseJump Comedy, and as a member of improv troupe Third Party. He is passionate about helping people step out of their comfort zones to find their way back to their spontaneous kid-on-the-adventure-playground creativity.

Payment & Refund Policy

To maximise participation, we offer pricing options. Those who can afford a bit more are effectively subsidizing scholarships for those who can not afford to pay the full amount.  If you need a scholarship, please contact us about a scholarship by using the contact form, and we'll try to work something out. We've never turned away a student due to a lack of funds.

We reserve the right to choose the students who are a good fit for our program. If we do accept you into the course, your payment will secure your spot, and you're set to go! If we are unable to accommodate you in the course as an applicant, we wil initiate your refund within 48 hours. If you join us in the course, but leave the course after your first class session, your payment is refundable, minus an administration fee of $100. No refunds are offered after the second class session begins. All course fees are GST inclusive.

Covid-19

In the event of COVID-19 making meeting in person unsafe, we will have classes online via zoom. In the event of a Covid-surge, masks are worn during classes.  We encourage students and coaches to protect themselves and the community if they are feeling sick.
