As improvisers and creatives, we all have blocks that hold us back from fully diving in, which is what is really required to reach deeper places in our improv journey, connect deeper with our fellow improvisers, AND get the roaring laughs and gasps we all love!

In this course, you'll build on your pre-existing improv experience, and with Nicola's emotional-focused style of teaching, you'll learn, practice, and further expand on the tools to get standing ovations on stage, leaving audiences thrilled and amazed to see you really go there! 

Nicola will work with you individually, journey after journey, to work you through your emotional blocks and deepen your connection to your fellow improvisers. Featuring exercises and games for connecting and individualised practice focused on helping you stay out of your head, leaving you to fully dive into scene after scene whilst still having your wits about you to move things forward in surprising ways! 

At the end of the term, use all your learnings, growth and connection to formulate a show with Nicola's direction and then perform it at the Graduation Showcase on Monday, 12th June at The Pow Wow Room!

About your teacher

Nicola Pauling is passionate about play and performance as a tool for personal, professional, emotional, and creative development! She’s been performing for 20+ years and facilitating applied improv for over 15 years. Nicola is a disciple of Actors Improv (Bobbi Block, USA) and likes to keep it real on stage.  She is co-founder of ‘Best on Tap’ an improv troupe renowned for creating truth-based spontaneous theatre. She is also the founder and Director of Voice Arts, which you should totally check out.

Class Outline

5:30pm: Social Time & Settle

5:45pm - 7:20pm: Exercises & Journeys begin promptly 

7:20pm - 7:30pm: Break, eat, connect with everyone

7:30pm - 9:30pm: Jams. This is a chance to play with fellow performers from all levels of Improv Connection!

Jams

Jams are the perfect way to cement the improv skills you'll learn in the class and are included in your course fee! Get in those reps with varied groups of improvisers each week, supervised by coaches who offer encouragement and feedback, alongside their own improv expertise. It's a great way to connect, learn, and share!

Graduation Showcase

Alongside Nicola and your fellow players, put all your learnings and inspiration into practice, headlining the Graduation Showcase with a unique show of your own on Monday, 12th June at The Pow Wow Room!

Prerequisites

This class requires the completion of Fundamentals 1 or a significant level of previous theatrical improv experience. If you're not sure if this course is for you, please reach out to us! 

Payment & Refund Policy

To maximise participation, we offer pricing options. Those who can afford a bit more are effectively subsidizing scholarships for those who can not afford to pay the full amount.  If you need a scholarship, please contact us about a scholarship by using the contact form, and we'll try to work something out. We've never turned away a student due to a lack of funds.

We reserve the right to choose the students who are a good fit for our program. If we do accept you into the course, your payment will secure your spot, and you're set to go! If we are unable to accommodate you in the course as an applicant, we will initiate your refund within 48 hours. If you join us in the course, but leave the course after your first class session, your payment is refundable, minus an administration fee of $100. No refunds are offered after the second class session begins. All course fees are GST-inclusive.

Receipts for GST refunds, tax deductions (for professional development, etc), or other purposes are available upon request.

Covid-19

In the event of COVID-19 makeing meeting in person unsafe, we will have classes online via Zoom. In the event of a Covid-surge, masks are worn during classes.  We encourage students and coaches to protect themselves and the community if they are feeling sick by staying home. We will update you regarding any adjustments to the policy throughout the course.
