Best-Level Improv

Learn from some of the best improvisers at the 2023 New Zealand Fringe Festival in this 7-week course and turn all your inspiration and learnings into a show! Featuring 2 extra (or 3!) special guest teachers, led by Improv Connection's Austin Harrison, this course is a fun intensive designed to build and expand the skills in your improv toolkit with group Fringe show viewings (optional) to spark your inspiration and creativity. 

Class Outline

5:30pm: Social Time & Settle, if possible 

5:45pm - 7:20pm: Class. For the first few weeks, the class will feature a guest teacher sharing their skills. Then you'll prepare a show using the skills you've learned with Austin! 

7:20pm - 7:30pm: Break, eat, connect with everyone

7:30pm - 9:30pm: Jams. This is a chance to play with fellow performers from all levels of Improv Connection! 

Guest Teachers and Fringe Shows

Led by experienced improviser, director, and producer, Austin Harrison, the course will feature 2-3 specially selected, to-be-announced guest teachers, fresh from their Fringe Festival shows and ready to share their knowledge, skills, and answer ALL your burning questions about how they put together of their shows and performances! 

BONUS (optional): For an even richer learning experience, try to join Austin and the class for Fringe shows that feature the guest teachers you'll meet. There will be a night that the class will go as a group, but you can go any night you wish, or not at all if you're unable to make it (don't sweat it!). Shows times TBA. 

Monday Night Jams

Monday Night Jams are the perfect way to build on your improv skills and are included in your course fee! These Jams provide the chance to get in those reps - work in varied groups of improvisers each week, led by coaches that offer encouragement and feedback, alongside their own improv expertise. It's a great way to connect, learn, and share!

Graduation Showcase

Alongside Austin and your fellow players, put all your learnings and inspiration into practice, headlining the Graduation Showcase with a unique show of your own on Monday, 3rd April at The Pow Wow Room!

$5 for any Improv Connection show when signed up for any course!

Pre-requisites

This class requires the completion of Fundamentals 1 and Art of the Scene. 

Payment & Refund Policy

To maximise participation, we offer pricing options. Those who can afford a bit more are effectively subsidizing scholarships for those who can not afford to pay the full amount.  If you need a scholarship, please contact us about a scholarship by using the contact form, and we'll try to work something out. We've never turned away a student due to a lack of funds.

We reserve the right to choose the students who are a good fit for our program. If we do accept you into the course, your payment will secure your spot, and you're set to go! If we are unable to accommodate you in the course as an applicant, we will initiate your refund within 48 hours. If you join us in the course, but leave the course after your first class session, your payment is refundable, minus an administration fee of $100. No refunds are offered after the second class session begins. All course fees are GST-inclusive.  

Recepits for GST refunds, tax deduction (for professional development, etc) or other purposes are available upon request.

Covid-19

In the event of COVID-19 makes meeting in person unsafe, we will have classes online via Zoom. In the event of a Covid-surge, masks are worn during classes.  We encourage students and coaches to protect themselves and the community if they are feeling sick by staying home. We will update you regarding any adjustments to the policy throughout the course.
